Fr. Vasile Mihoc, born in 1948, has been an Orthodox priest since 1969. He studied theology in Sibiu and earned his PhD at the Orthodox Theological Institute in Bucharest (1983). Between 1977-1979 he studied at the École Biblique et Archéologique Française in Jerusalem, where he graduated as titulaire (1978) and diplomé (1979).
In 1974 he began his work at the Theological School in Sibiu. Since 1983 he has been ordinary professor of New Testament for graduate, post-graduate and doctoral studies. After the Romanian anti-communist revolution (1989), he helped to re-found the Theological Schools in Cluj-Napoca and in Arad, and he taught in those universities as well. Fr. Vasile is a member of the Society of Orthodox Biblical Scholars (since 1988); of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas – SNTS (since 1997); of the Eastern Committee of the SNTS; of the Colloquium Oecumenicum Paulinum (Rome); founding member of the Inter-confessional Bible Society in Romania; founding member of the Inter-confessional Union of the Bible Scholars in Romania; president of the board of the Orthodox Association “Lord’s Army” and member of the edition committee of the “Iisus Biruitorul”, “Lord’s Army” newspaper. For ten years he was a member of the board of World Vision Romania. He participated in the conferences of these organizations, and in many other national and international conferences. He published many theological studies in Romania and abroad.
Fr. Vasile is married to Octavia, and they have 13 children, five boys and eight girls (from 41 to 22 years old) and 23 grandchildren.
